How each set type is scored, how estimated 1RM and training volume are calculated, how a personal record is detected, and what the app stores on your phone.
Logging a workout
- What does each set type actually change?
Mekimeki has six set types — normal, warm-up, drop set, failure, assisted and per side — and three of them change arithmetic rather than only appearance. Warm-up sets are excluded from personal records and from training volume. Per-side sets count twice toward volume. Assisted sets enter the estimated 1RM with the weight negated, so less assistance produces a higher estimate. Drop set and failure are labels only: they are scored exactly like a normal set, and drop sets additionally default to a rest timer of zero. - Can I see last time’s weight and reps while I am logging a set?
Yes. Mekimeki shows what you did last time for the same exercise beside the row you are typing into, so the number you are comparing against is in the same line of sight as the number you are entering. Press and hold that figure and it is copied into the row, which is usually the whole interaction for a set you intend to repeat. The same column is available while editing a template, so a plan can be built against what you actually lifted. - What happens to sets I did not finish when I end a workout?
When you finish a session, Mekimeki saves the sets you marked done and discards the ones you did not. The surviving sets are renumbered from one so the saved session reads cleanly, and any exercise left with no completed sets is dropped from the saved session entirely. If anything is still unmarked when you finish, you are asked to confirm first, so this never happens without warning.
How the numbers are calculated
- Do warm-up sets count toward my personal records and training volume?
No. In Mekimeki a set marked as warm-up is excluded from personal record detection and from training volume, in every view that reports either. The set is still saved and still shown in your history, so you keep the record of what you actually did — it simply cannot produce a personal record and does not add to your volume totals. Warm-up is the only set type that is excluded this way; drop set, failure, assisted and per-side sets all count. - How is estimated 1RM calculated for assisted pull-ups and dips?
When a set is marked as assisted, Mekimeki takes the weight you logged, negates it, and uses that signed value everywhere the estimate and your records are calculated. Because the number on an assisted machine is help rather than load, negating it makes the estimate move in the direction you are actually moving: dropping from 25 kg of assistance to 15 kg produces a higher estimate, not a lower one. No bodyweight entry is required, because the direction comes from the sign rather than from subtracting assistance from your weight. - Which one-rep max formula does Mekimeki use, and can I change it?
Mekimeki offers three: Brzycki, Epley, and a hybrid of the two, which is the default. The hybrid uses Brzycki at 10 reps or fewer and Epley above that, because Brzycki is the better fit in low rep ranges and becomes unstable as the rep count climbs. You can change the formula in settings at any time, and every estimate on your history is recalculated with the new one — nothing is stored pre-computed. - How does Mekimeki decide that a set is a personal record?
Mekimeki tracks three kinds of record for each exercise — heaviest weight, most reps, and highest estimated 1RM — and marks a set only when it wins both comparisons: it must be the best set of that kind in the current session, and it must beat the best you have ever logged for that exercise. At most one set per session can hold each kind of record. Warm-up sets and sets you did not mark done are excluded from both sides of the comparison.
Your data, units and cost
- What costs money in Mekimeki?
Nothing does. Mekimeki has no PRO tier, no subscription, no trial that expires, no advertising and no account to create — every behaviour documented in this help centre is available to everyone from the day the app is installed. That includes the things trackers most often reserve for a paid tier: unlimited templates, unlimited custom exercises, your complete history with no cut-off on how far back you can read, every progress chart over that whole history, multi-week programs, and the built-in training plans.
