What does each set type actually change?

Mekimeki has six set types — normal, warm-up, drop set, failure, assisted and per side — and three of them change arithmetic rather than only appearance. Warm-up sets are excluded from personal records and from training volume. Per-side sets count twice toward volume. Assisted sets enter the estimated 1RM with the weight negated, so less assistance produces a higher estimate. Drop set and failure are labels only: they are scored exactly like a normal set, and drop sets additionally default to a rest timer of zero.

What each type changes

Normal The baseline. Counts toward volume and records; volume multiplier 1; weight enters estimated 1RM positively.
Warm-up Excluded from personal records and from training volume entirely. The set is still stored and still shown in your history.
Drop set Scored identically to a normal set. The only behavioural difference is that a new drop set defaults to 0 seconds of rest instead of 120.
Failure Scored identically to a normal set. It is a label for reading your own history, and it changes no calculation.
Assisted Counts toward volume and records, but the weight enters the estimated 1RM with the sign flipped, so 15 kg of assistance estimates higher than 25 kg.
Per side Counts twice toward training volume. Rep counts are not doubled — only volume is.

The type is per set, not per exercise

Every set carries its own type, so one exercise can hold warm-up sets, working sets and an assisted set in the same log without splitting into separate exercises. Your history for that movement stays in one place as the mix changes over months.

A set only counts toward records and volume if it is both marked done and not a warm-up. An unfinished set contributes nothing, whatever its type.

Why only three types change the maths

A type should change a calculation only when scoring it like a normal set would be wrong. A light opener genuinely is not evidence of a record, a set performed on each side genuinely is twice the work, and a number on an assisted machine genuinely points the opposite way from a number on a barbell.

Drop sets and failure sets are different in intent but not in arithmetic: the weight was moved and the reps were performed, so counting them normally is the accurate thing to do. Labelling them still earns its place, because reading your own history later is much easier when you can see which sets were taken past the point you would normally stop.

Do warm-up sets still appear in my history?

Yes. Warm-up sets are stored and displayed like any other set. The exclusion is from the calculations — personal records and training volume — not from the log.

Can I mark a set as more than one type?

No. A set carries exactly one type. If a set is both a drop set and taken to failure, pick the one you want to see when reading your history back, because neither changes the arithmetic.

Does the type affect the rest timer?

Yes, for two of them. A new drop set defaults to 0 seconds of rest rather than 120, and warm-up sets and drop sets can be given their own default rest length in settings, separately from working sets.
