The eight on this page

The names you have probably already heard, and most likely already tried:

And the ones that keep coming up when you ask around — smaller, well liked by the people who use them, and easy to miss on the App Store charts:

The four shapes of "free"

Almost every workout app is free to download. What separates them is where each one starts charging, and that is invisible on day one.

Some cap the structure around your logging — usually how many routines you can save. Push, pull and legs is three, so a three-routine cap feels generous until the day you build a four-day split. Some give you everything for a trial and then stop, which is an awkward thing to discover mid-programme. Some leave logging and routines uncapped and charge for a layer above, normally a programme library or deeper stats; if you do not want that layer, their free version may be all you ever need.

Mekimeki has no paid tier at all. No Pro, no Plus, no upgrade screen. Worth saying plainly: that is not automatically better, because an app that charges has money coming in to pay for its own upkeep. What it does mean is that nothing you can see today can be moved behind a paywall tomorrow.

Questions people ask

Does Mekimeki need an account or an internet connection?

Neither. The app opens straight into a workout with no sign-up, and logging, history, personal records, estimated 1RM, the rest timer, and the plate calculator all run on-device. It behaves the same in a basement gym with no signal.

What does Mekimeki not do?

There is no social feed, no cloud account, no coaching marketplace, and no algorithm that writes your program for you. Several apps on this page do those things deliberately and do them well. If a community feed or an AI-generated workout is the reason you open a tracker, one of them is the better fit.

Which iPhone do I need?

Mekimeki requires iOS 17 or later. The comparison table lists the minimum iOS version for each app, which is worth checking if you are on an older device, because a couple of the trackers here now require iOS 18.

Where these numbers come from

Free-tier limits and prices are quoted verbatim from each developer’s App Store listing on the US storefront; descriptions differ by country. Minimum iOS versions come from Apple’s published app data. Each listing is archived on the date it was retrieved, and every quote is re-checked against that copy.

Where a listing does not state a limit or a price, the table records it as unstated rather than estimated. No comparison is made of account requirements, offline behaviour, or App Store ratings. Last checked 15 August 2026; confirm current terms on the App Store before you commit.
