Six set types, and each one changes the maths
Marking a set as a warm-up is common, and several trackers exclude warm-ups from your records the way Mekimeki does. In Mekimeki the tag decides how the set is scored, because a warm-up, a drop set and an assisted set are not the same kind of evidence about how strong you are.
The six tags
- Normal
- CountsThe default. Counts toward PRs, estimated 1RM and volume.
- Warm-up

- CountsRecorded as a drop set, still counted toward volume and records.
- Failure

Why warm-ups have to be excluded
If ramp-up sets count, two things break quietly. Your total volume rises on weeks where you warmed up more carefully, which is the opposite of what volume is meant to measure. And a heavy single done as a last warm-up can register as a best set, so your PR history fills up with lifts you did not actually treat as work. Tagging the ramp-up keeps both numbers about the training that counted.
Why assisted has to be inverted
On an assisted machine the number you enter is help, not load. Counted normally, adding assistance would read as getting stronger. Tagged as assisted, more help produces a lower estimate and less help a higher one, which is the whole point. There is a longer explanation with an example if you use the machine regularly.
Why per side is not just a note
A single-arm row at 30 kg for 10 is 20 working reps, not 10. Logging it once and counting one side understates every unilateral exercise you do, and unilateral work is exactly where people already struggle to compare weeks. The tag doubles the volume contribution so the number matches the session.
What this adds up to
Your history keeps the texture of what happened, while your progression numbers stay clean. The tags cost one tap on the sets that need them, and nothing at all on the sets that do not.
Which set types does Mekimeki support?
Six: normal, warm-up, drop set, failure, assisted, and per side. Each one is a tag on the individual set, and each changes how that set is scored rather than only how it looks.
Do warm-up sets count toward PRs and volume?
No. A set tagged as warm-up is excluded from personal records and from total volume, so ramping up to a working weight never creates a fake best or inflates your week.
How is an assisted set scored?
The weight is read as assistance, so it lowers the estimated 1RM instead of raising it. Less help produces a higher estimate, which is the direction your training is actually moving.
What does per side do?
It counts both sides toward volume. A single-arm row logged once is recorded as the work you did with both arms, rather than half of it.
Do drop sets and failure sets change the maths?
They count toward PRs and volume like a normal set, and they record what the set actually was. The value is an honest history: a rep count reached at failure reads differently from the same number left in reserve.
Is tagging required?
No. Every set starts as normal, and you tag only the ones that are something else. If you never touch it, the app behaves like an ordinary logger.
